While curved organic shapes, natural materials and fluting/reeded details continue to dominate the twice yearly furniture market, there’s a new darling making waves.
SCALLOPS, no not the mollusk kind, but the wavy fun kind, are showing up in all manner of design, be it fashion or interiors. Furniture details, fabric patterns, window coverings, trim details, etc. are showing up with this darling design detail.
Scallop details can be whimsical when paired with playful fabric patterns, eye-catching when embellished with contrasting trim to really bring out their shape, or, sophisticatedly elevated without any adornment and only their wonderfully curvy lines making a quiet statement.
I don’t know about you but SCALLOPS make we want to skip down the sidewalk and rekindle my fun side haha.
Have a peak and tell me what you think. Are you on board the scallop train?
SCALLOPS IN THE BEDROOM
Scallops offer a soft design detail perfect for bedrooms.
Upholstered beds, headboards, and valances are the first obvious interior elements where scallops can reign supreme.
Scalloped detailing has been around for a long time, in both design and fashion. It fell out of favor and was almost forgotten for a while, as design and fashion trends come and go, however, this couture-like detail is returning in a prominent way in all manner of interior design.
Fabrics, patterns, and colour palette will determine if your room is whimsical, ‘girly’, nostalgic, or elegant and sophisticated.
PATTERN PLAY
All manner of waves and curves, and a variety of pink shades play well in this pleasantly pink bedroom. Not too sugary but still sweet!

QUIET ELEGANCE
Here a sophisticated bedroom with a simple scalloped headboard, shows that even a small detail can have enough presence to make a great first impression. A light and soft colour palette creates a sophisticated and elegant bedroom.

DOUBLE THE FUN
My husband has a saying that ‘if one is good two is better’ haha, and in this case I couldn’t agree more!
This room feels a bit nostalgic with a country cottage flavour and colour palette. The scalloped window valance, scalloped headboard, and scallop edge detail in bedding continue the theme perfectly.

This classic colour palette is invigorating and inviting! I am seeing more orange pop up at market in a multitude of pieces and accessories.

SCALLOPS IN THE LIVING ROOM
Living Rooms, Family Rooms, whether traditional or modern are also getting a scalloped treatment.

A ‘wave’ of custom upholstery pieces are being re-imagined by designed and upholstery houses alike. A seemingly small detail like a scallop can take a piece from just ‘meh’ to exciting. Take these next pieces for instances, benches, banquettes, chairs all get this scallop couture-like detail. Traditional to modern this curved shape is catching everyone’s attention and fancy.
