I confess I’m having a love affair with the colour Green!
My ‘affair’ started at 4 years old with the most perfect green velvet dress that was only worn on special occasions. Soft, somewhat plush and warm it was the perfect dress for all occasions and, well, it did bring out my green eyes. My mom was on to something haha.
Current design trends are still leaning heavily towards green with the ethos that ‘Green is the New Black’. And since March is the month to celebrate everything green, I’m here to tell you that I’m all in for this exquisite colour, which has a whole range of shades and tones that will have you green with envy – but in a good way!
WHY GREEN IS TRENDING IN INTERIOR DESIGN

Green shades remain a popular choice in interior design.
Remember that warm Avocado Green from the 70’s? Yeah. – but not that.
Although it’s been updated, mostly by what we’re pairing with it to make it fresh and modern, this new green decade is all about exploring the entire green colour palette.
I don’t see this colour crush with green tapering off anytime soon and, most likely, think it will become as favoured as the ubiquitous blue and white colour combo, as well as the blue and green combo. You can’t beat Mother Nature!
Since there’s a lot to cover (pun intended), when it comes to shades of green, I am breaking this series into 4 parts to showcase the different green colour palettes and characteristics so you don’t get overwhelmed all in one sitting.
This series starts with the WARM GREEN colour palette.
Looking through the palette you might just find an unexpected shade of green you never considered before, until you see it in action in these real-life installations and images.
SELECTING THE RIGHT SHADE OF GREEN
FOR YOU AND YOUR HOME

HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT SHADE OF WARM GREEN FOR YOUR HOME
The trick to getting the right shade of green is finding the right tint, tone or shade that sparks the joy! Light & Bright, Energetic & Vibrant, Dark & Moody or Calm?
Any shade in this palette can have light and bright, or dark and moody qualities, depending on the level of saturation. My advice is to select a shade that you love and then adjust the value of that colour to get it where you want it to be.
This is easily achieved if you want to create a custom colour, otherwise, you will need to adjust your expectations based on your supplier’s paint colour offering.

How to use Warm Green paint colours in your home
Warm greens can be tricky because they can sometimes take on a muddy look, depending on how deep a colour you select, and if too much yellow pigment is included in the formula. Too much yellow and you can end up with a pea-soup type colour. Not usually most people’s favourite.
However, warm greens can be very calming, as you’ll see in the images below.
Here are my best picks for warm green shades that actually look good in a room.

AND IF YOU’RE AFRAID OF MAKING THAT BIG OF A COMMITMENT…then just do a little 🙂
ACCESSORIES and ACCENTS are a great way to introduce a new colour if you just want to experiment or don’t want to do a complete overhaul.
Lamps, Accessories, and Art add just the right amount of green in this lovely traditional bedroom.

A velvet-upholstered bench in a warm green colour anchors the room and is a secondary focal point.

CHOOSING YOUR BEST SHADE OF GREEN TO ENHANCE YOUR HOME
Sometimes we overcomplicate things. The best shade of green for anything on you or around you is the one that best complements your skin tone – really!

That’s the same reaction you want when selecting a shade of green for your home. You’re going to want to really love it since you’re going to be looking at it for a while.
