Welcome to Part 3 of a 4-part series on all things green in interior design and décor.
I think we can all agree that the scorching temps this summer are taking a toll….on just about everything! It’s hard to enjoy any bits of sunshine when you feel like you’re melting into the asphalt. The grass is no consolation either – it feels like concrete, everything is so dry.
Which brings me to refreshing COOL GREEN COLOURS to help you cool off, whether in your home, porc,h or pool house, or possibly hiding out in the basement where it is much cooler haha.
Current design trends are still leaning happily towards green with the ethos that ‘Green is the New Black’. However, make no mistake, cooler weather will be nipping at our heels in the blink of an eye *gasp* , but for now, I think we can all agree that cooler greens should prevail during these heat waves.
COOL GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS

Green shades are still going strong in everything interior design.
COOL Greens are the greens that make you sigh psychologically, in a satisfied relaxing way. Airy and light, softly muted, or lightly saturated, Cool Greens are the quiet cousins with a chic, classic retro, and quiet luxury vibe.
Soothing, restful, calm, and cool in colour language, they have more blue undertones and pigments, in any of the colour intensities. Think sea salt or turquoise shores. No yellow undertones here at all, and you’d be easily forgiven if you blurred the lines between Cool Green and Soft Blue, when looking at these colours and beautiful spaces.
CLEAR OR MUTED COOL GREENS
On the clearer side of the colour wheel they can feel like a burst of spring, uplifting and light. On the muted side they can feel like a lazy day at the spa or relaxing by the pool kind of colour. Calming, cool, restful, peaceful.
SOFT AND SOPHISTICATED COOL GREENS
If your design aesthetic tends more quiet and SOPHISTICATED, then you’ll probably lean towards softer colours, and minimal or subtle pattern combinations. Soft texture and low contrast are your friends.
SATURATED COOL GREENS
If on the other hand you prefer a little more fun and brightness, you’ll find the look in some of the images below. Think complimentary colour scheme for a bolder approach. Another option is an analagous colour scheme in more saturated colours, which can definitely give you a stronger dose of colour look without being garish.
HOW BEST TO EXPERIENCE IT
To feel the full impact of some of these cool green colour it is best experienced in large swaths of colour. Think cabinetry for a kitchen, laundry, or bathroom, or painting walls and trim in the same colour for total impact. This works well with either soft or saturated shades.
Whichever strikes your fancy, you’ll immediately feel ‘cooled’ down when entering the room.
Wherever you land on the style wheel, this collection of cool green colours has a lot to offer for both interiors and exteriors. Since there’s a lot to cover (pun intended), when it comes to shades of green, I am breaking this series into 4 parts to showcase the different green colour palettes and characteristics so you don’t get overwhelmed all in one sitting.
This 3rd part in the series showcases the COOL GREEN colour palette. Looking through the palette you might just find an unexpected shade of green you never considered before, until you see it in action in these real-life installations and images.
How To Select the Right Shade of Cool Green
for Your Home

The trick to getting the right shade of green is finding the right tint, tone or shade that sparks the joy! Light & Bright, Energetic & Vibrant, Dark & Moody or Calm?
Any shade in this palette can have light and bright, or dark and moody qualities, depending on the level of saturation. My advice is to select a shade that you love and then adjust the value of that colour to get it where you want it to be.
This is easily achieved if you want to create a custom colour, otherwise, you will need to adjust your expectations based on your supplier’s paint colour offering.

How to use Cool Green Paint Colours in Your Home
Cool green colours should be in your colour palette arsenal, particularly if you live in a hot climate, for starters. The softness and coolness of these colours immediately takes down the temperature of any room.
Even in our northern climate, with temperatures getting hotter and heat waves lasting longer each year, these colours feel fresh and cool on those hot days that never seem to end.
This colour palette is best suited for rooms that face south and southwest, and get a lot of direct sun and heat.
Cool greens can be softer in intensity and saturation overall.
They can be on the clear or muted side of the colour wheel.
The muted side is where you will feel the ‘cool, calm and collected’ appeal of these shades, and are what most people can live with.
There are still a few ‘brights’ in there that add fun and flair to a room.
Here are my best picks for COOL GREEN shades that easily refresh and rejuvenate a room in a jiffy.
